So I don't really have a whole lot to report. I've mainly just been working and I've only had one day off a week this week and last week. I've been spending my days off doing the usual things like laundry and running errands. Next week should be interesting to work though because I will have two days off but I will be working at two other stores at Downtown Disney all next week.
I have had a chance to go out with some of my friends here and I've had a lot of fun so I've been able to find a good balance between work and life. I did get to do something pretty interesting the other day with two of my roommates and some of my roommate's co-workers which is consuming a kitchen sink ice cream sundae. At the Yacht and Beach Club resort there is a little ice cream shop called Beaches and Cream and they have the kitchen sink ice cream sundae. This sundae is in a bowl in the shape of a kitchen sink and consists of about 20 scoops of ice cream (vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, and mint chocolate chip), hot fudge, carmel, peanut butter, bunt cake, brownies, angel food cake, every topping imaginable (sprinkles, chocolate chips, strawberries, pineapples, etc), a whole can of whip cream and a handful of cherries. This huge sundae serves four and we had five to consume it. It was great and it's definitely not something you eat and worry about the calories! :-)

Update for Feb. 10th 2010
Hi Everyone!
I hope everyone is doing well. I just wanted to do a quick update on my life here in Orlando since I created the blog. Well, I am out of training as of last Friday so I've been given a normal schedule at work. I worked last Saturday night and decided to take the bus (Disney provides a bus to take everyone in the college program to and from work and some other places). I decided that taking the bus wasn't that good of an idea, I got off work at 12:30am and didn't get home until 1:30am and I only live maybe 10 minutes away from Downtown Disney where I work. Now I know it's a bus and there are other stops but I decided I should just try driving to work so I get home sooner to sleep. My schedule is definitely not something that I'm used to. I am working majority nights which means I will be going to work anytime between 5-6pm and getting off work between midnight and 1am. I also have yet to be scheduled 40 hours which I thought was strange especially since I only have one day off of work next week. I'm used to working 40 or more hours a week when I work more than 5 days a week. So I'm a little confused with how they schedule people at Disney but hopefully I'll get some clarity from a manager this week so I am better prepared.
On a lighter note, I've had the last three days off of work which allowed me to watch the Super Bowl on Sunday and go to Hollywood Studios on Monday with two of my roommates. Hollywood Studios was a lot of fun, I enjoyed riding Tower of Terror and Rock 'n Roller Coaster! I also got to eat at the Sci-Fi Dinner which I've always been interested in eating at. You actually get to sit in a 1950s style car (which is changed for dinning) and the setting looks like you are at a drive in and you're watching these 1950s sci-fi, B movie previews while you eat. It's a great place to relax for a little bit and I was excited to have a real thick milkshake! We also were able to see the Lights, Action, Motors Stunt Car Show which I thought was so great! It was definitely my favorite show so far!
Well, I have to go get ready for work. I'm working nights until Sunday when I finally get a day shift and then I'll have Monday as my only day off so hopefully I'll have more to report next week. Talk to y'all soon!

Disney Lingo #1
Ok everyone, so the Disney Company has it's own Disney lingo and so I figured I'd let y'all know about the lingo when I learn it so you can learn too! So here is the first lesson:
Cast Memebers = Employees, people who work for the Disney Company
Guest = Customers, people who visit the Disney parks
Costume = uniform
Stay tuned for more! :-)

Welcome to Orlando!
(Here's the email I sent to my family)
Hi Everyone!
Greetings from Orlando, FL! I figured I would give everyone an update on my new life here in the Sunshine State (which is now rainy)! First off, I hope that everyone is doing well. I miss all of you and love you very much!
Last Wednesday, the 27th of January, I moved into my new apartment here in Orlando. I am living in a three bedroom, three bathroom apartment (each room has their own bathroom). It is set up just like a regular apartment with a living room, kitchen and dining room. We also have a small built in computer desk. The apartment is furnished so I didn’t need to bring any furniture. The bedrooms have 2 twin beds, 2 nightstands, and a dresser. I live with 5 other girls and they are all nice. They are from California, Michigan, Ohio, South Dakota, and Florida. Their ages are 22-24 so yes that does make me the oldest but its fine with me and something that’s even a joke between us. One of the girls’ mother even put me in charge when we moved in (parents were allowed to come help move us in but my parents stayed home so they can come visit later) which I then explained that I won’t be anyone’s mother. But these girls seem to know how to take care of themselves so I should be fine and we all get along nicely which is another good thing.
I was able to find out on my first day here where I would be working which I was very excited to find out. I am working in a retail shop called Team Mickey in the Downtown Disney shops. For those of you who have not been to Walt Disney World, Downtown Disney is not in any of the 4 parks. Downtown Disney is a separate shopping and dining area on Walt Disney World’s property. It’s a great place to shop and eat at with places like Planet Hollywood and the World of Disney store which is the biggest Disney store I’ve ever seen with pretty much every type of Disney souvenir you can imagine. I will be working at the Team Mickey store which is a sports store, we sell hats, shirts, balls (football, basketball, baseball, etc), and other sports related items. We have items from several professional and college sports teams in football, baseball, basketball, and even a little soccer. We don’t have all the sports teams but I’m happy to report we do have Pittsburgh Steelers items which I was of course happy about. We even have some ESPN items like shirts, hats, glasses, etc because I’m not sure if some of you know but the Disney Company owns ESPN. We even have a good size golf section because Walt Disney World has a pretty nice golf course on property from what I hear. I’m very excited about working here and I need to bone up on sports besides football so I know all the teams and can have better conversations with our guests (we don’t call anyone a customer at Walt Disney World, you are a guest). I’m also excited about my costume (uniform), for those who have been to Walt Disney World I’m sure you remember that the cast members (employees are called Cast Members here) can sometimes wear pretty crazy costumes (uniform). Well since I am working in a sports store I am wearing a pretty normal costume, I get to wear white sneakers, navy blue khakis, and a yellow jersey like polo shirt which I’m happy about. Right now I am still in training, I will be done with training Friday and will be working on my own. I should be working about 30-40 hours until the busy season starts and I will most likely be working a lot of nights.
Well, that’s about all from Florida. I am thinking about starting a blog so it can be easier for everyone to see what I’m up to and see pictures but I will keep you all posted about that. Talk to everyone later!
Have a magical day!
