New Smyrna Beach 5/26/10

Hi Everyone!

So I've been down here for four months and I finally made it to the beach! I had the day off and me and some friends decided to go to the beach. We decided to check out New Smyrna Beach which is on the ocean side of Florida. I've heard good things about it and I'm happy to say that we had a great time and we all want to go back. I thought I would share some of the pictures with everyone. :-)

Exploring Orlando on 5/10/10

So on one of my days off I was driving around with my roommate and decided to take her to the most unique McDonald's which is really cool. It's 2 levels and has an arcade and they have normal McDonald's food plus stuff you wouldn't expect like pasta and carrot cake. It's defintely something you would only see in a tourist area. We also decided to go to Old Town in Kissimmee later that day with some other roommates. I love Old Town and remember going there when I was younger so it was nice to show my roommates this place. While we were at Old Town we decided to do this ride called the Sling Shot which is exactly what it is called, you and someone else are in this seat/chair thing and you are shot up in the air just like a sling shot. It was crazy and scary and fun. It was a great day and I thought I'd share some pictures with you. :-)

Sorry I've been away

Wow, I saw that I haven't blogged in a while and for that I'm so sorry. There has been so much that has happened in the past month that I'm not sure where to start. I guess I should start with my families visit at the end of April. My parents, grandparents came for a week and my aunts and cousins came for the weekend. I definitely needed a visit from my family because the week before I was extremely stressed. It seemed like everything (work and where I was living) was driving me crazy and stressing me out. Having my family come visit me definitely helped calm me down and relax me and I haven't been stressed since they left. I got take my family to Epcot and Animal Kingdom which they loved and I'll post some pictures so you can see. I was sad to see them go but luckily I've got my cousin and his family in Palmetto (which is near Tampa/St. Pete) and another cousin here in Orlando so I'm never too far away from family.

Since my family left a lot has changed though, I got a call from Disney about my panic attacks and was transferred to Housekeeping at the Yacht and Beach Club. I started about two weeks ago and I like it, it is definitely a much harder job but I work days and I love having my nights off. Unfortunately I hurt my back earlier this week because of work. I believe I have a pinched nerve and muscle spasms which as I'm sure you all know is not fun. I ended up going to Urgent Car this past Friday because the pain wasn't going away and they gave me medication to help and also gave me a note for work putting me on what is called modified work. The note states that I can't lift anything over 10 lbs, I can't bend or twist, and I can't kneel which is if anyone knows about housekeeping knows that doesn't leave much for me to do. So work has been interesting since I haven't been able to work at my full capacity because of my back.

Speaking of work, I made a decision about my life here in Orlando. I started to realize that time is passing and my program with Disney is ending in August which means I had some things to figure out. Even though I enjoy working for Disney, I am not guaranteed a job with Disney in August and I do want to stay here in Orlando. So I have decided to start to look for another job, a more permanent one so I will not be without a job when August rolls around. I put in a lot of applications and a bunch of different places and I've even had some interviews so just keep your fingers crossed that something good will come along for me and I'll keep you posted if something happens.

Another thing to tell you about is that I've just finished my second week of school. I'm taking English and Speech online through Valencia Community College here in Orlando. I can already tell you that online classes here are a lot tougher than the online classes I took in Charlotte so I've been working harder at managing my time and making sure I've got all my assignments done on time. The Speech class online is interesting and some of you may be wondering how I do a speech class online and basically what I do is when I have to give a speech I record it and upload it for my teacher to view and grade. It's very interesting. I've also been able to go ahead and register for my fall classes and I've register for 3 classes but will probably drop one before the fall semester starts. I'm also waiting to hear back about financial aid for the fall and hoping that I am able to get a pell grant this year.

Well, that's about all from me. I know a lot has happened in a month and I'm sorry for not keeping everyone up to date but I promise to try better in the future. :-)

Disney Formal 5/5/10

Sorry it's been a while since I've done a blog but I've been busy with work and my family visiting which I'll blog about later. :-) I wanted to post some pics from the formal that Disney had for its College Program students. They called it a formal but dressing up was optional and there were people there in jeans and there were people there in prom attire! I was in the middle, I wore a dress and so did the girls I went with. I went a little bit further with Kala and we added some Cinco de Mayo attire to our outfits. I had a pair of tequila shot glasses and she had a mini sombero and a mustache (the mustache didn't last long but she tried)! The formal was at Coronado Springs which is one of the resorts at WDW and it was in a HUGE ballroom. There was a DJ and a good spread of food and I was suprised how good the layout was because the other functions that they've had for the College Program students were not that good but I had a good time.
